A Walk in the old town centre of Petralia Sottana
Petralia Sottana has represented in the centuries one of the major cultural centres in the Madonie mountains. It owns a large number of evidence of a rich and intriguing past. Ancient convents and very rich churches, unexpected foreshortenings and finely decorated fountains. Advance through the ancient fabric of the city, once inhabited by people who left precious evidence of faith and mysticism such as the ancient panels of the Holy Sacrament. Take a walk in the wide main street, which can be considered a true “drawing room” in the Madonie. Listen to the voice of ancient organs which continue to impress and to move every time they are played.
Finally, don't miss the opportunity to admire the massive polyptych by Gagini, more than 10 metres tall. Let its panels tell you the life of the Christ and immerse yourselves in the contemplation of the Gospel of the poor. And, if you want, ask us about a strange house...
Urban Geological Path
A simple, fabulating route, inside the fabric of the city and its immediate outskirts, in search of scientific (geological, hydrogeological, paleontological, geomorphological) and ethnic - environmental (stone culture, legends, ancient tools, sculptures…) aspects.
A journey towards the discovery of fossils and geological events in the pavings, the structural stone of the monuments, the decorations, the outcrops, the caverns inside the old town centre. A different way to approach historical architecture, artistic stone-working, and the geological history of a territory which, besides simple fans, has also fascinated geologists and naturalists.

"The Stones and the Water" Geological Path
Going through the “Regia Trazzera delle transumanse”, a path going from Petralia to Castelbuono used for the transhumance of herds, after 30 minutes you reach the “Ponte di San Brancato”, a Romanesque-style cambered bridge, which allowed to cross the stream “Mandarini". .
Once arrived at the Peak of S. Otiero, you can see remains of columns; here, in fact, there used to be the stone quarry “Lumachella” from where were extracted the twelve monolithic columns of the Mother Church of Petralia Sottana.
The route carries on up to “Catarratti”, one of the most important springs in Central-Northern Sicily and, further on, the homonymous – and still working – hydroelectric power plant, a great example of early XX century “industrial archaeology”.

"The Nature Monuments of Bosco Pomieri" Path
The route leading to the monumental trees is short, but very intense. Along the path three magnificent specimens rise imposingly: a durmast, a country maple and a mountain maple. We a talking about trees which are several hundreds years old, have a diameter of several metres and are more than twenty metres tall.
"Abies Nebrodensis" Path
From Polizzi Generosa take the S.P. 119 towards the splendid "Anfiteatro delle Quacella", until reaching a gate at approximately Km. 8 on the right. Trespassing it on foot you get onto a track leading to the Wallon “Madonna degli Angeli”, an emblematic place loaded with meanings with little more than 20 relict local Fir plants, which are unique in the world and considered as a dying species. At about 1,5 km, on a hairpin bend of the track, a path starts on the right: taking this path, after another km you will see the first specimens of Abies, all rigorously catalogued and protected, which can be easily recognized by their bell shaped foliage, their peculiar strobiles, and by the cross structure of their small branches.

I frequenti toponimi di origine araba sono una chiara testimonianza della presenza musulmana nel territorio che, dopo alterne vicende, dal XV al XVIII sec. fu Signoria dei Conti di Modica sotto il cui dominio godette di grande splendore. Il Santuario di Gibilmanna, dedicato alla SS. Vergine, è il più celebre tra i Santuari Mariani della Sicilia e da sempre punto di gravitazione religioso e sociale delle Madonie.Il Santuario si trova nel territorio di Cefalù, da cui dista poco più di 14 km.
